Image compositing, retouching and digital processing

Which signs may indicate image alteration and why it is important to preserve the source files.

Why this matters

A photograph may be altered before publication, after downloading, during forwarding or when saved in an editor. Both visual signs and technical traces in the file are examined.

  • inconsistencies in the image structure;
  • traces of retouching and inserted elements;
  • metadata changes;
  • transcoding and resaving;
  • inconsistencies in lighting, perspective and details.
Inquiry

You may send the source image, storage medium, capture device, documents, the court's questions or a report for review.

  • photographic images;
  • photographic equipment;
  • metadata and digital traces;
  • compositing, retouching, alteration;
  • review of an expert report.

How data is processed: Personal Data Processing Policy. Attach only materials relevant to the inspection; obscure unnecessary data about other people.

For a preliminary assessment, it is better to attach the source file rather than a screenshot or a photograph from a messaging app.

Attachments: up to 10 files of up to 10 MB each, with a maximum combined size of 15 MB. If a file is rejected, the enquiry is not sent.
