Forensic photographic and facial comparison examinations: the difference

Why identification by physical appearance belongs to facial comparison examination and does not always fall within forensic photographic examination.

What is the difference

Forensic photographic examination studies the image, technical equipment, capture conditions, signs of processing and digital traces. Facial comparison examination is directed at identifying a person from the physical features visible in an image.

Some cases may require a multidisciplinary approach: a forensic photographic examination of the image's quality and integrity, followed by a facial comparison examination to establish identity.
