How to prepare photographs for examination

What to provide: the source file, storage medium, device, metadata, screenshots, correspondence, documents and explanations.

What to provide

  • the source photograph file;
  • the storage medium and capture device;
  • information on how the file was obtained;
  • comparison images;
  • correspondence or the source of publication;
  • an investigative order, a court ruling or questions.

Screenshots and files from messaging apps are useful as supplementary materials, but the source file is better for technical analysis.

Inquiry

Send a photograph or describe the task

You may send the source image, storage medium, capture device, documents, the court's questions or a report for review.

  • photographic images;
  • photographic equipment;
  • metadata and digital traces;
  • compositing, retouching, alteration;
  • review of an expert report.

How data is processed: Personal Data Processing Policy. Attach only materials relevant to the inspection; obscure unnecessary data about other people.

For a preliminary assessment, it is better to attach the source file rather than a screenshot or a photograph from a messaging app.

Attachments: up to 10 files of up to 10 MB each, with a maximum combined size of 15 MB. If a file is rejected, the enquiry is not sent.
